Weekend getaway from Bangalore!! Chikmagalur!

When trekking is your agenda and splashing water in natural showers is your fantasy.... One of the destinations you think of should be Chikmagalur!! Located just about 250kms from the heart of the city, Bangalore!

Famous for it's Mullayanagiri range of Western Ghats for trekking and lounging in for some beautiful views, the "Coffee Land of Karnataka" always amazes it's visitors. Ideally one can shortlist this destination anytime between September to March.

After a short trek to reach the hilltop of Mullayanagiri, one can choose to climb the last 300 odd steps to reach the highest peak of Karnataka to seek the blessings in the temple of "Mulappa Swamy". If you don't plan to trek then start your trip a bit early in the morning so that you can take one of the many mini-buses and jeeps which reaches until the start of the steps to the temple peak.

One can head next to the Baba Budan Giri also known as the Chandra Drona Parvatha or Dhatha Peetha. This is another prominent tourist destination in Chikmagalur. You can visit the Dattatreya Bababudangiri Darga here. An annual ceremony called the "Urs" is held in these mountain caves.

If you get tired of all the trekking and want to relax your muscles a bit in the cooling waters, head to one of the many waterfalls located in the vicinity of these trekking areas. Manikyadhara falls, Buttermilk falls, Hebbe falls, Kalhatti falls are among the famous ones. You would find many small unnamed natural waterfalls during your drive to the various places.

One would definitely be amazed at the rich flora and fauna surrounded by these many waterfalls. The thunderous sounds made by these falls can be heard from long distances. Few of these falls are also known to have medicinal qualities as well.

For all you avid coffee lovers out there, do visit the vast expanses of coffee plantations. There is also a Coffee Museum which details out the coffee production of the district and also has evaluation centers to evaluate the various coffee beans. It gives a great information about the different facets to coffee production.

There are innumerable home-stays around the district for those lazy folks who would love to only laze around and enjoy the serene weather and amazing hill views right from the balcony of their place of stay. For all others, Chikkamagalur offers hotels at best budget prices for a comfort stay.

Don't forget to buy some coffee powder before heading back to your city just to revisit your memories of your weekend holiday!!!

Enjoy your stay! 😃
